Rosario, Argentina: Once the building used to illegally detain and torture political prisoners during Argentina’s Dirty War (1976-1979), the Centro Popular de Memoria is now a historical site, dedicated to preserving the memory of those killed under the oppressive regime of Jorge Rafael Videla. In 2001, ownership of one portion of the center was transferred to several human rights groups, who, in conjunction with some of the families of the disaparacidos, have developed a museum dedicated to chronicling the violence of the Dirty War.
