Buenos Aires, Argentina: The largest prison in Argentina during the Dirty War, the ESMA building was the last known destination of thousands of civilians, most of whom were brutally tortured, raped and killed, their bodies then flown over the ocean and dumped out of planes. The building was also used as a place for the training of Naval personnel, much of which took place alongside or in sight of the murders. Today, the ESMA building has been converted into a museum, with little to no displays or interpretation. The rooms, which remain empty, pay tribute the horrors of the past.
