Cuscatlan Park, El Salvador: The civil war that overtook El Salvador lasted from 1980 through 1992, resulting in the disappearance of thousands of civilians, many of whom were tortured and killed by the radical right-wing military government. After the war, several non-government organizations banded together to erect a memorial wall, much in style of the United States’ Vietnam Memorial. The names of 75,000 victims are engraved on black granite. A landscaped park frames the site.
