Arlington, Virginia: Dedicated to the victims of American Airlines Flight 77, which was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon as part of the September 11th attacks, the Pentagon Memorial is comprised of two separate memorial sites. Upon reconstruction of the building following the crash, the “American Heroes Memorial” was built. A black plaque engraved with the name of each victim is available for viewing, accompanied by a book containing biographic details and photographs of those killed. A more extensive memorial is under construction outside the Pentagon and will feature 184 benches, one for each victim, arranged in a landscaped park. The benches, each with its own reflecting pool, will be facing the direction that the plane took as it crashed.
