Grutas, near Druskininkai, Lithuania: Grutas Park, also referred to as “Stalin World,” is a theme park located near the town of Druskininkai, Lithuania. Grutas was designed in the spirit of Disneyworld to provide visitors with an authentic experience of a Soviet prison camp. The grounds are enclosed in barbed wire, and the park features over eighty statues, divided into six spheres or subcategories. The totalitarian sphere includes exhibits on Lenin, Stalin, and Marx, the terror sphere includes members of the military known for human rights abuses, the Soviet sphere is dedicated to those who oppressed Lithuanian attempts at independence, and a death sphere has statues of those who led the death squads. Actors dressed as historical figures gather to mock Soviet festivals and terrorize visitors.
