Vilina Vlas, Bosnia: The Vilina Vlas spa, located in Bosnia, was taken over by Serbian fighters and transformed into an infamous “rape camp” in the 1990s. Thousands of Muslim Bosnians and other non-Serbs were detained at the spa, brutally raped, and then disappeared, most being interred in anonymous mass graves located in surrounding areas. After the war, the spa reopened to tourists, and its website boasts of its healing waters and calming atmosphere without making any mention of its dark past.
