Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: While not the site of a trauma per se, the War Remnants Museum features planes, tanks and artillery from the Vietnam War years. Reconstructed prison cells emulate the conditions under which Vietcong prisoners were tortured and killed by American troops. Galleries display instruments of torture, glass cases with bloodstained clothing and photographs of dead bodies line the walls. One section of the museum is dedicated to showing the effects of Agent Orange on the civilian population through an expansive display of grotesque photos, accompanied by jars with the deformed corpses of babies floating in formaldehyde.
